In 2017 3G formed a partnership on its Higgins Mountain Wind Farm in Nova Scotia, with Elemental Energy of Vancouver, BC and Katalyst Wind Inc of Halifax, NS. The Higgins Mountain Wind Farm project was started by 3G in 2004, with the initial creation of three 1.2 MW Vensys prototype direct drive wind turbines. In 2017, 3G teamed up with Elemental and Katalyst and working together the three companies successfully submitted to EMERA’s April 2017 renewable energy procurement in preparation for the EMERA’s Atlantic Link submission to a Massachusetts Clean Energy RFP in July 2017. In early 2018, the partners learned that EMERA was not selected as an energy supplier to Massachusetts, but the partners believe there is a positive future for the Higgins Mountain Wind Project. Eventually if successful in obtaining a power purchase agreement, this 150MW project will proceed through normal permitting plus site planning with Northern Pulp Nova Scotia Corporation as well as other stakeholders. There will be announcements in late 2018 regarding forthcoming stakeholder engagement initiatives.
